Beth has taken up a new time-management system. She spends all day setting the timer on the stove. She looks nuts. I finally ask her what she’s doing. “It’s called pomodoro . . . . It’s Italian for tomato.” She works in 25-minute increments, then takes a five-minute break. She turns the work into a verb. “I’m going to pomodoro cleaning the bathroom.”
